BREAKING: Hurricanes sign another highly rated star to two-year, two-way contract
A familiar last name is heading to the Tar Heel State.
On Sunday, Carolina Hurricanes general manager Eric Tulsky announced the signing of forward Josiah Slavin to a two-year, two-way contract. The deal has an average annual value of $775,000 through the 2025-26 season, with a minor-league salary of $150,000, and guarantees $450,000 to Slavin. This marks Slavin’s first NHL contract in two seasons, as he was previously on an AHL contract with the Toronto Marlies.
“Josiah is a smart, two-way forward with good size,” Tulsky said in a release. “He competes hard, brings high character, and has some NHL experience. We’re thrilled to add him to our organization.”

Hailing from Erie, Colorado, Slavin was originally selected by the Chicago Blackhawks in the seventh round of the 2018 NHL Draft. After two seasons at Colorado College, Slavin signed an entry-level contract with the Blackhawks in March 2021, with a cap hit of $925,000. However, his time with the team was short-lived as he was traded to the Anaheim Ducks in February 2023. Without receiving a qualifying offer from the Ducks, Slavin moved to Toronto, where he played a depth role and appeared in nearly every game. In 70 games with the Marlies, he scored 10 goals and 14 assists with a +4 plus/minus rating and appeared in all three Calder Cup Playoff games for Toronto.
In his NHL career, Slavin has registered a single assist in 15 games, achieved during the 2021-22 season. In 201 AHL games, he has tallied 38 goals and 43 assists, with one assist in six playoff games.
Slavin will now join his older brother, Jaccob, on the Hurricanes. The team is no stranger to sibling pairings, having had veterans Eric and Jordan Staal play together for a few seasons.
