Should the Atlanta Hawks (24-30), currently holding onto the final play-in spot in the Eastern Conference, consider parting ways with the Trae Young-Dejounte Murray duo by the end of the season?

According to insights from Howard Beck of The Ringer, there’s a belief among league executives that Young could be on the trading block, with the Hawks potentially open to a deal as soon as this offseason.

Despite the Hawks’ struggles, Young is having an exceptional season, averaging 27 points and a career-best 10.9 assists per game. If the Hawks opt to trade Young, several teams stand to benefit from acquiring the three-time All-Star.

San Antonio Spurs (11-43):
The San Antonio Spurs possess perhaps the most captivating player in the NBA right now in Victor Wembanyama. Despite their 11-43 record, Wembanyama has become must-watch television. The Spurs are in dire need of a playmaker who can efficiently feed Wembanyama the ball, and Young, leading the league in total assists, fits the bill perfectly. The prospect of Young serving up alley-oops to Wembanyama is tantalizing. Additionally, the Spurs have promising young talent in Jeremy Sochan, Devin Vassell, and Keldon Johnson, along with their own first-round picks to sweeten any potential deal. They also have the Hawks’ unprotected first-round picks in 2025 and 2027 from the Murray trade to offer in return.

Orlando Magic (29-25):
The Orlando Magic boast a talented roster on the cusp of becoming a legitimate playoff contender. They currently rank sixth in defense but struggle offensively, ranking only 24th in the league. Young’s offensive prowess could significantly elevate their scoring capabilities, particularly in the fourth quarter where they rank 27th. Young’s ability to consistently generate scoring opportunities for himself and his teammates makes him an ideal fit for the Magic. With assets like Markelle Fultz, Anthony Black, Jonathan Isaac, and extra draft picks, the Magic are well-positioned to make a compelling offer to the Hawks.

Toronto Raptors (19-35):
Following trades involving Pascal Siakam and OG Anunoby, the Toronto Raptors are in a rebuilding phase centered around rising star Scottie Barnes. Despite Barnes’ emergence, the Raptors struggle offensively, ranking 21st in offense and 24th in three-point shooting. Young’s arrival could alleviate these issues by creating space for Barnes to operate and facilitating scoring opportunities. With Young’s dynamic offensive skills, the Raptors could revitalize their offense and accelerate their rebuilding process.

As the Hawks evaluate their options heading into the offseason, Young’s undeniable talent presents an enticing opportunity for teams seeking offensive firepower. Whether Young remains with the Hawks or moves elsewhere, his impact on any team’s offensive performance could be substantial.
