Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love is poised to be the franchise’s long-term starter. Despite concerns about his abilities before the 2023 NFL season, Love surpassed all expectations, finishing his first season as a starter with a 64.2% completion percentage, 4,159 passing yards, 32 touchdowns, 11 interceptions, and a 96.1 passer rating. This performance marked the best season by a first-year starting quarterback in franchise history, and Love became the first quarterback in NFL history to achieve such numbers before his third year as a starter.

Love’s success has given hope to millions of Packers fans about the future of their team and has set him up for a significant payday. Before the 2023 season, the Packers and Love agreed to a two-year contract that provided him a raise as the starting quarterback while buying out his fifth-year option.

Finishing the season as a top-ten quarterback in the NFL has positioned Love for the potential to sign the largest contract in franchise history, though that has not yet occurred.

Quarterback Completion % Yards Touchdowns Interceptions Passer Rating
Jordan Love 64.2% 4,159 32 11 96.1
Aaron Rodgers 63.6% 4,038 28 13 93.8
Brett Favre 64.1% 3,227 18 13 85.3

Green Bay Packers Quarterback Jordan Love Could Make $60 Million a Year

When the offseason began, many expected Jordan Love to receive an extension worth around $46 million per year. However, two significant extensions signed by other NFL quarterbacks have led many to believe Love may become the first quarterback to earn $60 million a year.

First, the Detroit Lions extended Jared Goff’s contract for four years, paying him $53 million per season, making him the second-highest-paid quarterback in the NFL behind Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals, who earns $55 million per year. Then, the Jacksonville Jaguars gave Trevor Lawrence a massive contract extension also worth $55 million per year, tying Burrow for the highest annual salary in the NFL.

Jordan Love Trevor Lawrence
Completion % 64.2% 65.6%
Passing Yards 4,159 4,016
Touchdowns 32 21
Interceptions 11 14
Passer Rating 96.1 88.5

Considering that Love outperformed Lawrence last year, many believe he deserves an even higher salary.

Lawrence has never had a season with as many touchdown passes as Love’s did last year, nor has he ever had a passer rating this high.

Green Bay Packers Quarterback Jordan Love Addresses What a Contract Extension Would Mean to Him

In a recent “Ask Me Anything” video interview with Bleacher Report, Jordan Love was asked what signing a contract extension with the Packers would mean to him. He responded, “That would mean a lot to me. That would be awesome. You know, being able to sign an extension with the team that drafted you, I feel is something that all players dream of. Be able to stay in that same situation, same team, the organization that believed in you from day one.

“So I am definitely looking forward to that. Hopefully it happens in the future, but I am very excited for the upcoming season and what is in store for our team and to be able to solidify something long-term here in Green Bay.”

It appears negotiations are still ongoing, but Love clearly wants his future with the Packers. Given his impressive performance last year, it’s likely that Green Bay wants the same.
