The Oakland Athletics placed shortstop Jacob Wilson on the 10-day injured list Sunday after the organization’s top prospect suffered a left hamstring strain during his major league debut on Friday.

In a corresponding move, the Athletics activated infielder Abraham Toro from the 10-day IL following his recovery from a right hamstring strain.

Wilson singled in his first at-bat against the Los Angeles Angels in the third inning of Friday’s game but began limping badly as he approached home plate, scoring on Lawrence Butler’s triple.

An MRI revealed the hamstring strain, and the move was made retroactive to Saturday. Wilson hoped to continue playing but was replaced and held out of Saturday’s game.

“It was pretty horrible,” Wilson said of exiting Friday’s game early. “This is a day you work for your entire life and look forward to for a long time. I had three innings and got the base hit, which was the high moment of my life. Rounding third, I felt something. … Hopefully, it’s not too serious.”
