TRANSACTION SUCCESSFUL: Elks confirm a huge league deal with another crucial RB signing

EDMONTON — The Edmonton Elks have added American running back Justin Rankin to their practice roster, as announced by the team on Sunday.

Rankin returns to the Elks after taking part in their training camp, although he was released on May 19. The Ohio native played for the Bay Area Panthers in the Indoor Football League in 2023, where he won the IFL National Championship. Rankin finished second in the league in both rushing yards (923) and touchdowns (45) with the Panthers. The 27-year-old previously played for the Frisco Fighters in 2022 and the Bismarck Bucks in 2021.

Additionally, the Elks have released National Simon Chaves (LS) and Americans Eric Black (DL), Jermaine Brown Jr. (RB), and Aubrey Miller Jr. (LB).

Jackson State product Miller Jr. played in five games for the Double E in 2024, recording four special teams tackles.

Black appeared in two games for the Elks this season, registering five total tackles and one tackle-for-loss. Brown Jr. and Chaves did not play in any games for the Elks.

The Elks will be back in action on Sunday, July 28, when they host the Hamilton Tiger-Cats at Commonwealth Stadium. The game is set for 5 p.m. MT (TSN, 630 CHED, CFL+).
