DEAL DONE: Milwaukee Brewers agree on a huge deal with New York Mets on their current crucial key man

The Milwaukee Brewers have strengthened their pitching roster ahead of the Trade Deadline by completing a trade with the New York Mets. With just over a week remaining before the deadline, the Brewers have acquired left-handed pitcher Tyler Jay from the Mets in exchange for minor league right-handed pitcher TJ Shook. This news was first reported by Will Sammon of The Athletic on Sunday.

Meet Milwaukee Brewers’ Newest Pitcher Tyler Jay

Tyler Jay has made just three MLB appearances for the Mets this season, with a 7.71 ERA. A first-round pick by the Minnesota Twins in 2015, Jay debuted in the majors this year after stints with various independent teams and joining the Mets last year.

In Triple-A Syracuse, Jay excelled with a 2.40 ERA over 23 games, recording 30 strikeouts and only four walks. However, his performance didn’t translate to the majors, leading to his designation for assignment last Wednesday.

With Dallas Keuchel and Joel Kuhnel DFA’d, the Mets created space for Jared Koenig’s return from the injured list, and Jay was given a spot on the 40-man roster. He has been immediately optioned to Triple-A Nashville and has three minor league option years remaining.

Brewers send TJ Shook to Binghamton

TJ Shook, previously with the Biloxi Shuckers, the Brewers’ Double-A affiliate, will be moving to the Binghamton Rumble Ponies. Signed as an undrafted free agent in 2020, Shook has yet to make his MLB debut.

Over his minor league career, Shook holds a 23-17 record with a 4.77 ERA. This season, with the Shuckers, he has a 4.90 ERA, a 5-7 record, 77 strikeouts, 25 walks, and a 1.35 WHIP in 64.1 innings. Despite a solid .229 batting average against, the Brewers decided it was time for him to join a new team.
