The Toronto Argonauts have added three American players to their training camp roster, including defensive backs Kary Vincent Jr. and Darius Joiner, as well as running back Khalan Laborn.

Vincent Jr. was drafted 237th overall by the Denver Broncos in the 2021 NFL Draft but was later traded to the Philadelphia Eagles during his rookie year. Despite appearing in only two games and recording two tackles, he was waived after the following training camp. He then spent time on the San Francisco 49ers’ practice roster before joining the San Antonio Brahmas of the XFL in 2023.

Eventually, he was traded to the Houston Roughnecks, where he played six games and made five tackles. Vincent Jr., a five-foot-10, 190-pound cornerback, played three seasons at Louisiana State University, where he also competed in track and field. During his time with the Tigers, he tallied 87 tackles, one sack, and six interceptions in 39 games. Following LSU’s CFP National Championship win in 2019, Vincent opted out of the 2020 season to prepare for the NFL Draft.

Joiner’s collegiate journey led him to Duke University in 2022, where he earned third-team All-ACC honors. In his final season, he accumulated 97 tackles, eight tackles for loss, four sacks, two interceptions, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery in 13 games. Prior to Duke, Joiner spent four years at Jacksonville State before transferring to Western Illinois University for the 2021 season, where he received first-team FCS All-American honors. Throughout his college career, the six-foot-two, 200-pound safety amassed 320 tackles, 19 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, four interceptions, three forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery. Despite going undrafted in the 2023 NFL Draft, the 25-year-old signed with the Houston Texans as an undrafted free agent, but he did not make the final roster.

Laborn’s rights were acquired by the Argos through a trade involving Canadian receiver Kurleigh Gittens Jr., who was sent to Edmonton in exchange for defensive tackle Jake Ceresna. Laborn, aged 26, previously attended training camp with the San Francisco 49ers and spent some time on the Elks’ practice roster. The five-foot-nine, 204-pound running back played at Marshall University in 2022, where he rushed for 1,513 yards and 16 touchdowns over 13 games, earning him first-team All-Sun Belt honors. Laborn initially committed to Florida State as a highly rated recruit but later transferred to Marshall. In his limited time with the Seminoles, he ran for 297 yards and four touchdowns in 12 games. However, his tenure at Florida State was marred by a knee injury that sidelined him for most of the 2018 season, and he was eventually dismissed from the team in July 2020 for violating team rules.

The Toronto Argonauts are set to kick off their 2024 regular season on Sunday, June 9, hosting the B.C. Lions at BMO Field.
