Breaking: 5-Star WR Confirms Commits To Texas Longhorns over Texas A&M, Alabama, LSU, and Florida State
The Texas Longhorns are entering a crucial recruiting period, with several five-star prospects expected to make their decisions by the end of the month. The first of these recruits, five-star wide receiver Kaliq Lockett from Sasche (TX), will announce his choice on Wednesday. He is considering Texas, Texas A&M, Alabama, LSU, and Florida State.
Ahead of his announcement, Lockett spoke with On3 recruiting expert Steve Wiltfong about his options and what he’s looking for at the next level. Lockett emphasized the importance of family, stating, “Really just an extension of my family. I’m really big on family. It’s going to be hard to leave them. I wanted the school to look after me and take care of me and I want the coaches to basically be my parents but not my parents if you get what I’m saying. My plan is to go three years and done. The school that I chose is the best way to be one of the best receivers in the country and to be a first-round receiver.”
Lockett’s priorities include staying close to home and developing into a top NFL receiver prospect, areas where the Longhorns excel. This spring, Texas had three receivers—Xavier Worthy, Adonai Mitchell, and Jordan Whittington—drafted into the NFL, and they are poised to have more drafted next spring. Additionally, Austin is just over a three-hour drive from Lockett’s home, providing proximity to his family.
Lockett sees potential in Texas, citing Coach Sark’s offensive strategy and Coach Jackson’s NFL experience as significant factors. He noted, “I like Coach Sark’s offensive mastermind style of offense. I like Coach Jackson’s perspective as an NFL receiver coach coming from the NFL to college and translating his NFL perspective to college. I like how Texas is a little bit more close (to home) than everybody else. And also my past dealings with Texas.”
Ranked as the No. 17 player nationally and the No. 3 wide receiver in the 2025 class, Lockett had an impressive junior season with 59 receptions for 1,299 yards and 13 touchdowns. He also recorded 29 catches for 492 yards and five touchdowns as a sophomore and earned varsity snaps as a freshman. Currently, the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine gives Texas an 83.6 percent chance of landing Lockett.
