According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, Florida State football’s recruiting class for the 2025 cycle is the 17th best. The Seminoles’ coaching staff wants to add additional talent to the program’s roster.

Florida State has lost some prospects on the recruiting road, including four-star linebacker Tavion Wallace, who has committed to the Arkansas Razorbacks. This is the truth of college football recruitment. You win some, lose some.

On Monday afternoon, the Seminoles missed another recruiting opportunity when Class of 2025 five-star offensive tackle Josh Petty from Fellowship Christian School in Roswell, Georgia, committed to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.

Florida State sees this as a setback, especially since Petty was previously considered a top prospect for the Seminoles. His sister is attending school in the Tallahassee area, and the family environment was appealing to him.

The Yellow Jackets used the “hometown hero” angle to attract the offensive lineman, appealing to his academic values and the opportunity to help elevate the program. This leaves Florida State in a difficult position as they have fewer high-profile prospects currently interested in them.

Despite already having standout offensive linemen like five-star Solomon Thomas and four-star Peyton Joseph, and promising young players like Maurice Smith, Darius Washington, and Jeremiah Byers set to graduate after the 2024 season, securing another top prospect would have been beneficial.

Offensive coordinator and offensive line coach Alex Atkins has a strong track record as a recruiter. There are exciting young talents on the offensive line, including Lucas Simmons, Andre Otto, Jaylen Early, Julian Armella, and Jonathan Daniels.

There’s no need to panic yet; there’s plenty of time before the December Early Signing Period. Petty might reconsider his decision if Florida State performs well this season and if the Seminoles manage to beat the Yellow Jackets in their upcoming matchup in Ireland.
