Former San Francisco Giants manager Gabe Kapler managed to keep his position during the recent front office shakeup by the Miami Marlins. The assistant GM, who was in his first year with the team, appears to be getting a second chance despite the Marlins having a challenging season.

Gabe Kapler avoids getting fired for a second straight year

It was reported that the Miami Marlins are undergoing a major overhaul of their front office, dismissing two of their assistant GMs. However, Gabe Kapler was not among those let go, which is a stroke of good luck for him given the Marlins’ dismal 44-75 record. It wouldn’t have been surprising if they had decided to start fresh entirely.

Kapler’s appointment to the Marlins front office raised some eyebrows, as he was let go by the Giants last season following two years of mediocre performance, a second-half collapse in 2023, and reports of losing the clubhouse. His experience in player development with the Dodgers likely played a role in him securing the position.

Reports suggest the Marlins intend to keep Kapler as an assistant GM next season, which quashes any speculation that he might step in as the team’s manager next year.

While Kapler has managed to retain his role, he’s also ventured into being a TikTok influencer, sharing vague motivational videos. However, it seems he’s either deleted his account or made his videos private.

Kapler remains a polarizing figure among Giants fans. Some couldn’t stand his unconventional style, while others defend him, arguing he was unfairly scapegoated by the front office, particularly by Farhan Zaidi.

Regardless, Kapler has dodged being fired for the second consecutive year and will continue his involvement in professional baseball. It’s possible he could return to managing before too long.
