DONE: Penn State WVU Transfer Superiority Complex Ahead Showdown
West Virginia transfer Garnett Hollis spent his first three seasons at Northwestern, giving him plenty of familiarity with the Mountaineers’ Week 1 opponent, Penn State.
In the lead-up to the game, Hollis shared some intriguing thoughts about Penn State’s attitude toward its opponents.
He suggested that the Nittany Lions don’t show much respect for teams outside of Ohio State and Michigan, implying that the program has developed a superiority complex, despite being somewhat overshadowed by its Big Ten counterparts for much of the past two decades.
While Penn State is a prestigious program with a national championship history and a prominent reputation in college football, they’ve only won one outright conference title since 2005.
Hollis believes there’s an inflated ego at Penn State, and he wasn’t shy about expressing this view just weeks before the season opener.
Hollis’s perspective may be shaped by his experience with Penn State, as the Nittany Lions have dominated Northwestern, going 14-4 all-time against them, including wins in each of Hollis’s three seasons with the Wildcats.
In those games, Northwestern was outscored 89-27, making it hard to earn much respect.
Now with West Virginia, Hollis is hoping for a different outcome. If Penn State was overlooking the Mountaineers before, they likely aren’t anymore!
