Steeves signed with Toronto in 2021 as an NCAA free agent from the University of Notre Dame, where he led the team with 32 points in 29 games. He made his NHL debut that same year and has spent the last three seasons primarily in the AHL within Toronto’s system.
With this deal, Nick Robertson remains Toronto’s only unsigned restricted free agent. Robertson has requested a trade due to limited top ice time on Toronto’s deep forward roster. However, no agreement has been reached to either re-sign him or trade his RFA rights to another team.
Steeves, 24, had an impressive AHL season with 27 goals, 30 assists, and 57 points in 65 games for the Toronto Marlies, plus a one-game appearance with the Leafs in 2023-24. In total, he has played seven NHL games, recording one assist.
