D D: Boilermakers commit 5-Star over Tennessee
Purdue has added another recruit to its 2026 class. On Monday, the Boilermakers secured a verbal commitment from Zyntreacs Otey, a three-star cornerback from Tennessee. Otey is the second player to commit to Purdue in this recruiting cycle.
Otey announced his decision on social media, becoming the second prospect in Purdue’s 2026 class, joining three-star quarterback Oscar Rios.
“First off, I want to thank God for putting me in this position today. I want to thank my family for making sacrifices to better my life and football career,” Otey wrote. “Thank you to my coaches who push me in practice and in the weight room to be a better player. Also, thank you to all the colleges who recruited me during this process.
“Now, I’m shutting down my recruiting process and committing to Purdue University. #BoilerUp.”
Standing 5-foot-11 and weighing 160 pounds, Otey is ranked by 247Sports as a top-40 cornerback and the No. 379 player in the 2026 class. He received a dozen offers and chose Purdue over schools like Arkansas, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Louisville, and Ole Miss.
In his sophomore year at Riverdale High School, Otey recorded 66 tackles, four passes defended, and two interceptions.
Coach Ryan Walters and his staff continue to make strides on the recruiting trail, aiming to bring top talent to West Lafayette. Securing Otey this early in the process bodes well for the Boilermakers.
The news of Otey’s commitment comes just under two weeks before Purdue kicks off the 2024 season against Indiana State at Ross-Ade Stadium.
