Florida State football’s recruiting efforts for the 2025 cycle have slowed somewhat, with the Seminoles adding four-star wide receiver Malik Clark from Rock Hill, South Carolina, on July 25th. Currently, the Seminoles hold the 18th spot in the 247Sports Composite rankings.

Recruiting has understandably taken a back seat as Florida State focuses on preparing for its 2024 season opener against Georgia Tech in Dublin, Ireland, scheduled for noon EST on ESPN.

Despite this, the coaching staff continues to work on building the program’s future foundation. Recruiting is a year-round process in college football, demanding coaches to juggle multiple responsibilities across different seasons.

One target the Seminoles are pursuing in the 2025 recruiting cycle is four-star running back Byron Louis from American Heritage High School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Louis’s high school team is playing against Milton High School, which is attended by four-star wide receiver commit CJ Wiley, on ESPN tonight. SportsCenter NEXT’s Twitter (X) account highlighted Louis with a long touchdown run against Milton High School.

As shown in the video, the talented running back demonstrates impressive speed as he sprints into the end zone. The Seminoles have a reputation for identifying skilled playmakers at the position. In the 2024 recruiting cycle, they secured four-star prospects Kameron Davis and Micahi Danzy.

With current roster players like Lawrance Toafili, Caziah Holmes, and Roydell Williams set to depart after this season, it’s crucial for Florida State to bring Louis on board.

The standout from American Heritage High School is also teammates with four-star cornerback commit Gregory “Zae” Thomas. The two are close friends and share a strong bond.

On Friday afternoon, Louis announced that he has narrowed his choices to four schools: Florida State, Miami, Georgia, and Wisconsin. He also revealed that he will be making his commitment on September 21st.

Louis is currently trending toward Florida State according to multiple analysts. Once considered a strong lean towards Ohio State, the Buckeyes shifted their focus to other prospects, allowing the Seminoles to secure his final official visit of the summer during the major June 21st weekend.

It’s worth noting that Florida State hosts California on September 21st, the same day Louis has set for his commitment announcement. There’s a possibility that Louis might visit during the game and choose to commit to the university, where he could reunite with his high school teammate, Gregory “Zae” Thomas, and his former head coach, defensive backs coach Patrick Surtain Sr.
