JUST IN NOW: WNBA legend fires back as Caitlin Clark controversy ending her deal done just now
WNBA legend Sheryl Swoopes has responded to Hall of Famer Nancy Lieberman after Lieberman claimed their friendship ended due to the Caitlin Clark controversy.
During an appearance on Stephen A. Smith’s show on Monday, following her commentary for the Indiana Fever vs. Dallas Wings game, Lieberman discussed the situation between Clark and Swoopes. According to Smith, Swoopes was removed from the broadcast team for that game because of her previous issues with Clark and was replaced by Lieberman.
Lieberman didn’t deny the change and went on to reveal details about their friendship, suggesting that a phone conversation in which she tried to help Swoopes understand the facts about Clark caused a rift between them. Lieberman said, “Well, she got upset with me on the phone. And I was like, ‘Sheryl, I’m not doing anything to hurt you. I’m just sharing.’ So our relationship pretty much is not happening at this point. I tried to talk to her at the Final Four, but she didn’t want to talk to me.”
Swoopes quickly responded to Lieberman’s claims on social media, directing her comments at Lieberman and Smith. “Here you go! I get what you’re trying to do with your boy @stephenasmith, but it ain’t working,” Swoopes wrote. “You know exactly what happened. And ditto… my life is good without you too (and him). You wanna go there?”
Swoopes and Smith have exchanged online jabs throughout the year regarding Clark, with Swoopes being critical of Clark on several occasions, while Smith has been a strong supporter of the Indiana Fever star.
Lieberman, who considers herself a supporter of women’s basketball, didn’t have anything negative to say about Clark. It remains unclear whether the Texas Tech legend would agree to an interview request from Smith.
