SUDDEN DEPARTURE: The Bruins Have Just Parted Ways With Veteran Goaltender
The Boston Bruins made some notable moves this offseason, bringing in players like Nikita Zadorov and Elias Lindholm. While they lost Linus Ullmark to the Senators, they remain a strong team, with Jeremy Swayman still considered one of the league’s top goalies.
However, Swayman’s situation has hit a rough patch as he’s still a restricted free agent, with negotiations reportedly going poorly. According to *Hockey Feed*, talks have stalled, and Boston has cut off all communication with the goalie. Ryan Whitney of *Spittin’ Chiclets* mentioned that the team hasn’t contacted Swayman for three weeks.
The two sides are far apart in contract discussions. Whitney reports that the Bruins have offered Swayman a four-year deal worth $6.2 million annually, which is significantly lower than the $9.5 million per year over eight years that Swayman’s camp is seeking. This demand mirrors the contract of defenseman Charlie McAvoy.
There have been previous reports that Swayman’s camp is asking for as much as $10 million annually, which would put him in the salary range of the NHL’s highest-paid goaltenders like Sergei Bobrovsky, Andrei Vasilevskiy, and Connor Hellebuyck.
As the start of the season approaches, it’s uncertain whether the Bruins and Swayman will reach an agreement in time.
