BREAKING: Penguins Confirms Blockbuster trade for Barrie native to professional tryout
The Pittsburgh Penguins added a new goaltender to their roster on Thursday, signing 25-year-old to a professional tryout (PTO) contract.
Richardson has spent parts of the last two seasons with the ECHL’s Greenville Swamp Rabbits, the Los Angeles Kings’ affiliate. Last season, he played in 12 games, boasting a 7-1-1 record, a 2.19 goals against average, and a .931 save percentage.
Hailing from Barrie, Ontario, Richardson played junior hockey with the Kitchener Rangers in the OHL, where he appeared in 112 games over four seasons. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton goalies coach Kain Tisi, who now works with Pittsburgh’s AHL affiliate, also coached Richardson during his time with the Rangers.
Standing at 6-foot-3 and 170 pounds, Richardson, a left-handed catcher, also played at Queen’s University in Ontario. The highest level he has reached is the AHL, where he played three games for the Belleville Senators in 2022-23, recording a 3.99 GAA and .873 save percentage.
