Boston Bruins GM Don Sweeney expressed frustration over the unresolved contract situation with goaltender as training camp approaches on September 18. With the Bruins starting their 2024–25 camp, he remains unsigned, leaving the team without their projected No. 1 goalie for the preseason and possibly the start of the regular season until a deal is reached. “He has chosen to wait, which is his right, until a contract is settled,” He told NHL.com on Wednesday. “We’re continuing negotiations. I’m disappointed we haven’t finalized it yet despite making it a priority.”

He remains hopeful, highlighting ongoing discussions with his agent, Lewis Gross. However, he hinted at a potential deadline. “I’m optimistic we’ll find common ground before Dec. 1,” he added.

The primary issues appear to be salary and contract length. David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period reports Swayman is seeking a deal between $9–10 million annually, aligning with top NHL goaltender salaries. “Swayman’s camp is eyeing a long-term deal worth $9–10 million per season,” Pagnotta noted, though confidence in reaching a deal has waned slightly.

Meanwhile, Andrew Keefe reported on September 18 that the Bruins are reluctant to exceed an $8 million annual average value (AAV). “To my knowledge, the Bruins won’t go above $8 million AAV, and no deal is finalized,” Keefe stated. With Linus Ullmark’s departure, Swayman was set to become the starter, but until a contract is signed, the Bruins will rely on Joonas Korpisalo and Brandon Bussi, with Korpisalo likely stepping in as the starter after being acquired from the Senators in the Ullmark trade.
