The Miami Dolphins have arrived in Seattle to face the Seahawks for their Week Three matchup of the 2024 NFL regular season. Unfortunately, they’ll be without their star quarterback, Tua Tagovailoa, for this game and the next several weeks.

During Miami’s Week Two blowout loss to the Buffalo Bills, Tagovailoa sustained a severe concussion while attempting to scramble for a first down. The Dolphins quarterback, who recently signed a $212.4 million contract at the start of training camp, collided head-first with Bills safety Damar Hamlin.

Earlier this week, Miami placed Tagovailoa on injured reserve, ruling him out for at least four weeks. However, the team has not provided a clear timetable for his return.

The Miami Dolphins Traded for a Former Pro Bowl Quarterback Tyler Huntley

With Tua Tagovailoa sidelined for the foreseeable future, the Dolphins signed former Pro Bowl quarterback Tyler Huntley from the Baltimore Ravens’ practice squad. Huntley earned a Pro Bowl selection in 2022, though his inclusion is often cited as an example of the award’s diminishing significance. That season, he appeared in six games (four starts), completing 67% of his passes for 658 yards, with two touchdowns, three interceptions, and a passer rating of 77.2.

Despite his signing, Miami made it clear that Huntley will serve as Skylar Thompson’s backup for now. He’s not expected to start until he becomes more familiar with the team’s offense.

However, the Dolphins now face significant uncertainty at quarterback in Tagovailoa’s absence.

The Miami Dolphins Sign Former Green Bay Packers Backup Quarterback Tim Boyle

Tim Boyle feels like he belongs after rookie season in Green Bay

With uncertainty surrounding the quarterback position, the Dolphins decided to elevate Tim Boyle to their 53-man roster. Boyle had initially joined Miami in late August after being released by the Houston Texans and has been on the Dolphins’ practice squad since.

A former undrafted free agent, Boyle served as Aaron Rodgers’ backup with the Green Bay Packers from 2019-2020. However, he was released in 2021 when the Packers promoted Jordan Love to the backup role.

Boyle went on to play for the Detroit Lions in 2021 and the Chicago Bears in 2022. Last season, he reunited with Rodgers on the New York Jets, starting a few games after Rodgers suffered a torn Achilles. Boyle was eventually released midseason and finished the year with the Texans.

Over his career, Boyle has completed 62.3% of his passes for 934 yards, with four touchdowns, 12 interceptions, and a passer rating of 55.2.
