DONE TRADE: Seahawks Sign OG To Active Roster, Place T George Fant On IR
George Fant sustained a knee injury during Seattle’s season opener, forcing him to miss Week 2. Now, the injury will keep him sidelined for a longer period.
The Seahawks placed the 32-year-old on injured reserve on Saturday. Fant, a veteran swing tackle, was expected to fill in for Abraham Lucas at right tackle and could have covered the left side if Charles Cross missed time. With Lucas still on the PUP list and unavailable until at least Week 5, Fant will also miss the next four games.
To replace Fant, Seattle promoted McClendon Curtis from the practice squad. Curtis had competed for a role on the offensive line during the offseason, even contending for the right guard spot. He was next in line behind Fant at right tackle and was re-signed by the Seahawks after a brief stint with the Raiders following his release at the end of the summer. Curtis, 25, has only appeared in two regular season games.
Seattle also elevated two players from the practice squad ahead of tomorrow’s game. Linebacker Patrick O’Connell was called up and could make his first appearance of the season, and edge rusher Tyus Bowser might debut for the Seahawks. Bowser, a former Ravens second-round pick, joined the Seahawks after roster cutdowns, reuniting with head coach Mike Macdonald. He missed significant time in recent seasons due to injuries, including an Achilles tear and a knee injury. With Uchenna Nwosu recovering and Boye Mafe and Derick Hall questionable for the game, Bowser could provide much-needed depth on the edge.
Seattle still has all eight IR activations available after making no designations at the roster cutdown deadline. When Fant returns, it will use one of those activations, and the team’s tackle situation will remain crucial to monitor given the current lack of depth.
