BREAKING NEWS: B.C. Lions Confirmed The Signing Of 28-Year Old Star Player

A former defensive back who found moderate success during his time with the Denver Broncos is now venturing into the Canadian Football League (CFL).

The B.C. Lions made public on Tuesday that Duke Dawson, an American player standing at 5-foot-11 and weighing 182 pounds, has been added to their training camp roster. Dawson’s transition to the CFL follows six seasons in the NFL, notably playing for the Denver Broncos from 2019 to 2020. During his tenure there, he amassed 27 combined tackles (17 solo, 10 assisted) and managed two pass breakups. However, his NFL journey hit a setback when he suffered a torn ACL in week 14 of the 2020 season, subsequently landing him on the practice roster for the start of 2021.

Originally from Cross City, Florida, Dawson began the 2022 season in training camp with the Carolina Panthers before later joining the Pittsburgh Steelers’ practice squad in October of that year.

Selected as a second-round pick by the New England Patriots in 2018, Dawson faced a setback in his rookie year due to a hamstring injury during preseason, which kept him from seeing any game time. He was then traded to the Broncos in August 2019.

Dawson showcased his skills during his college years, playing 48 games for the Florida Gators from 2014 to 2017. During this time, he racked up 82 combined tackles (56 solo, 26 assisted), six interceptions, 23 pass breakups, and forced two fumbles. His standout performance in his senior season earned him honorable mention All-American honors by SB Nation.
