On Tuesday afternoon, the Chargers confirmed the addition of linebacker Blake Lynch and wide receiver Jalen Reagor to their practice squad. To make room, the team released tight end Luke Benson and cornerback Nehemiah Shelton.

Reagor, who last played for the Patriots in 2023, primarily contributed on special teams, including a 98-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. Lynch, a key special teams player for the Chargers in 2023, is expected to return to that role, with several contributors currently sidelined due to injuries.

The choice to sign Reagor likely stems from the coaching staff’s desire to create competition in the return game. Although Darius Davis earned Second-Team All-Pro honors as a punt returner in 2023, his performance in the first three games of the current season has been hesitant and uncertain.

Jim Harbaugh and Joe Hortiz have remained committed to the strategy of constantly rotating the bottom of the roster. This move indicates they felt the need for adjustments after Sunday’s loss to the Steelers.
