While Miami Dolphins fans awaited head coach Mike McDaniel’s decision on the starting quarterback for Monday night’s AFC matchup against the Tennessee Titans, General Manager Chris Grier was actively seeking ways to strengthen the roster.

On Wednesday, the team worked out free-agent defensive tackles Tyler Manoa and Neil Farrell. Today, they announced that they have reached an agreement with Farrell, signing him to the practice squad.

The Miami Dolphins’ decision to sign former LSU standout Neil Farrell is an intriguing move. Farrell, at 6’4″ and 324 pounds, brings size and experience from both the Las Vegas Raiders and Kansas City Chiefs. Despite being a fourth-round pick with a solid college resume—144 tackles, 7.5 sacks, and some key forced turnovers—he hasn’t fully hit his stride in the NFL yet. However, Farrell’s participation in Super Bowl LVIII and his contributions in limited action show that he has potential.

Miami’s defensive line coach Anthony Weaver is known for developing players, and Farrell could benefit from a fresh start in Miami. With the right coaching, particularly in honing his technique and conditioning, Farrell could be a valuable rotational piece or even crack the main roster as the season progresses.

As for Miami’s matchup against the Tennessee Titans on Monday Night Football, the Dolphins have looked solid this season. If the defense, bolstered by new additions like Farrell, can contain the Titans’ ground game and put pressure on their quarterback, Miami’s chances look strong. The key will be whether Miami’s defense can maintain consistency, and Farrell’s development could play a role in that down the line.

What are your thoughts on Miami’s defensive strategy and how Farrell could fit into the rotation?
