Alabama’s thrilling 41-34 victory over Georgia on Saturday has resulted in the Bulldogs losing their No. 1 seed in this week’s College Football Playoff projections. Texas, currently ranked No. 1 in the AP Top 25, has now stepped into the role of projected SEC champion in its inaugural season as a league member, replacing Georgia as the No. 1 seed in the CFP field.

For Georgia, the path to reclaiming its position in the SEC race will be challenging. The Bulldogs will likely need to win all their remaining conference games to secure a spot in the SEC Championship Game. This daunting task includes crucial home games against No. 5 Tennessee, a trip to No. 1 Texas, and a matchup against No. 6 Ole Miss, who suffered a home loss to Kentucky on Saturday.

The Longhorns kicked off their SEC journey with a solid 35-13 win over Mississippi State. Their only game against another top contender will be a home matchup against Georgia on October 19.

Missouri is also in a similar situation, facing only one game against another leading SEC contender—an away game at Alabama on October 26. Meanwhile, the Crimson Tide have challenging road trips to Tennessee and LSU surrounding their game against Missouri.

The Volunteers could create a pathway to the SEC title game with a victory over the Crimson Tide at home or a win against Georgia. The competition for the SEC championship and the coveted bye in the College Football Playoff is just beginning to intensify.

This week’s CFP projections show no newcomers; instead, there has been a reshuffling of teams surrounding Georgia and Alabama.
