Eliotte Friedman reports that Swayman will ask for a trade from Bruins because of what Cam Neely did
Jeremy Swayman may not have been thinking about requesting a trade from the Boston Bruins before, but it seems like he is now. On Monday night, reliable insider Elliotte Friedman reported: “As soon as Neely said, ‘I have 64 million reasons why I’d be playing right now,’ rumors quickly spread that Swayman might formally request a trade. This comment makes one thing clear — he’s considering it.”
If Cam Neely’s intention was to put pressure on Swayman’s side, publicly calling out his starting goalie might have backfired.

Friedman continued, “Never make life-changing decisions when you’re emotional. How Swayman feels over the next 24-48 hours will dictate what happens next.” In other words, the next few days will be crucial in determining whether this relationship can be salvaged or if it’s over. Either Swayman calms down, sets aside the emotions from Neely’s remarks, and returns to negotiations, or he realizes this is the second time the organization has thrown him under the bus and decides he’s had enough.
Although Swayman had told the team he wanted to stay with the Bruins, this public incident — which may turn out to be more significant than anticipated — could change his mind. The two sides are reportedly far apart in negotiations, and now the Bruins have made those talks public.
