A new MLB rumor suggests that a prominent National League power hitter could be a key target for the Atlanta Braves in free agency this offseason.

The Braves’ 2024 season fell short of expectations. They entered the year as strong World Series contenders, but season-ending injuries to stars Ronald Acuña Jr. and Spencer Strider limited their potential. Despite this, the team fought hard and secured a Wild Card spot.

Unsurprisingly, Atlanta couldn’t overcome the San Diego Padres in their three-game series. With the season over, the Braves now turn their attention to the offseason, looking to strengthen the roster for 2025. They face some important decisions regarding their rotation, with ace Max Fried hitting free agency and veteran Charlie Morton potentially retiring.

If the pitching staff weakens, the Braves may focus on adding even more power to their already potent lineup once Acuña Jr. returns. On Saturday, New York Post insider Jon Heyman highlighted what is expected to be a competitive market for Milwaukee Brewers shortstop Willy Adames.

The veteran MLB insider revealed that the Atlanta Braves have already expressed interest in acquiring the 29-year-old player. And he expects the organisation to make an effort to sign him in free agency this winter.

Although Adames has never been named an All-Star in his seven seasons in the league, he has emerged as one of the game’s finest slugging infielders over the previous three seasons. In that time, he has hit more than 30 home runs twice, with a season high of 32. He also had a career-high 112 RBIs for the NL Central champions this season.

According to Heyman, the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants are also expected to be strong contenders for the gifted infielder.
