BREAKING NEWS: Golden State Warriors Confirms Signing of Another Top Star
Pat Spencer, renowned as one of the greatest college lacrosse players in history, is embarking on a unique basketball journey by signing a two-way contract with the Golden State Warriors.
His path to basketball began at Boys’ Latin School in Maryland, a hub for lacrosse, where a significant growth spurt catapulted him from 5-foot-6 to 6-foot-2 between his sophomore and junior years. This transformation propelled him from junior varsity to varsity level, marking the beginning of his remarkable rise as a recruit.
With impressive performances, Spencer garnered attention, culminating in 49 goals and 51 assists, earning him Under Armour All-American status in his senior year. Subsequently, he committed to play college lacrosse for Loyola (Md.), where his success was immediate.
During his tenure, Loyola achieved a notable record of 49-19 and reached the NCAA Final Four in 2016, with Spencer, their 6-foot-3, 205-pound attackman, playing a pivotal role. By the end of his college career, he had become the most decorated athlete in Loyola’s history.
Spencer’s achievements extended to the NCAA Division I record books, where he secured the top spot for all-time assists (231) and second place in points (380). His stellar performance in his junior year earned him the prestigious Tewaaraton Award, akin to the Heisman Trophy in lacrosse, and he further clinched the Lt. Raymond Enners Award as the USILA national player of the year in his senior season.
Despite being the first overall pick in the Premier Lacrosse League’s Inaugural 2019 Collegiate Draft, Spencer opted to forego a professional lacrosse career and returned to school, signaling a surprising shift in his athletic pursuits.
Pat Spencer pursued his NBA dreams instead!
After utilizing his final year of collegiate eligibility to switch sports, Pat Spencer opted to play basketball at Northwestern instead of joining the Archers in the PLL. Despite the Wildcats’ struggles, Spencer had an impressive season, averaging 10.4 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game.
At 27 years old, Spencer is finally getting his shot at the NBA by signing a two-way contract with the Golden State Warriors. This opportunity comes after four years of professional basketball experience.
Following his departure from Northwestern amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Spencer played for the Hamburg Towers in Germany in 2021. He later inked a deal with the Capital City Go-Go in the G League before spending the last three years within the Golden State organization.
Now, after cementing his legacy as one of the greatest players in college lacrosse history, Spencer is poised to make his regular-season debut in the National Basketball Association—an exciting transition for the multi-talented athlete.
