Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green went on “Warriors on NBCS” and dropped a gem regarding the epic championship promise he made to Kevin Durant before his 2022 NBA Finals win.

Draymond Green Still Hasn't Learned His Lesson, and It Could Cost Golden State Its Season

Green enthusiastically praised the Warriors team of that year as his personal favorite because of how they were underestimated. The former two-time Defensive Player of the Year savored the victorious sensation, which was enhanced by fulfilling his promise to former teammate Durant.

Despite having experienced championship triumph in 2015 and back-to-back wins in 2017 and 2018, Green valued this victory even more due to the dynamic with Durant.

Draymond Green spoke fourth Finals win into existence

“Green joined former NBA All-Star Jeff Teague for a discussion, highlighting why his fourth championship in 2022 held a special significance. The Michigan State alum concluded his remarks on Teague’s ‘Club 520’ podcast, expressing that this victory stood out as the most challenging.

Despite not being the favored team and facing skepticism about their size and athleticism compared to opponents like Boston, they defied the odds and emerged victorious. Green emphasized the satisfaction of proving doubters wrong and fulfilling a promise he made to KD, confidently stating, ‘I told KD I’d win when you leave here, and I delivered on that promise.'”

Green and Durant engaged in a notable feud that led to Durant’s departure from the Bay Area in 2019. The conflict began when Green referred to Durant as a derogatory term during a game against the Los Angeles Clippers in 2018.

According to Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports, Green also expressed to Durant that the team didn’t require his presence, citing past successes without him. This tension lingered as the Golden State Warriors’ dominant era reached its conclusion, with media narratives suggesting Durant’s indispensability for the team’s success.

Consequently, this backdrop provided motivation for Green and his teammates to demonstrate their capability to win independently once again.
