Just In: Steph Curry drops hint about his plan for 2028 Olympics
Stephen Curry made a significant impact during his debut Summer Olympics, which might also turn out to be his final appearance.
Curry played a crucial role in leading Team USA to a gold medal, showcasing exceptional performances in both the semifinal and final games of the men’s basketball tournament in Paris. He sank eight three-pointers in the gold medal game and nine in the semifinal against Serbia.
In Team USA’s 98-87 victory over France, all 24 of Curry’s points came from three-pointers, including a crucial shot that prompted him to celebrate with his signature move (video here).
After his standout performance on Sunday, Curry expressed a sense of “a lot of relief” and suggested that winning the gold medal might have been a unique opportunity for him.
“This might not come around again,” Curry said, as reported by Tim Reynolds of The Associated Press. “It was very, very special.”
Curry’s comments may reflect the challenging nature of winning a gold medal, indicating that it is not easily achieved. Some have speculated that Curry might be hinting at not participating in the 2028 Summer Olympics.
Despite being 40 years old during the next Olympics, which will be hosted in Los Angeles, Curry might still be tempted to play, given its proximity to his home fans. LeBron James, who is 39, demonstrated this year that older players can still have a significant impact for Team USA.
While LeBron’s decision for the 2028 Olympics seems to be set, Curry has ample time to consider his future participation.
