BREAKING: Bills Land Impact CB from Detroit Lions to Bolster Secondary

The Buffalo Bills made waves earlier this offseason by trading former first-round pick Kaiir Elam to the Dallas Cowboys in exchange for a 2025 fifth-round draft pick.

Now, a recent trade proposal suggests the Bills could fill the void left by Elam by making a deal with the Detroit Lions for a cornerback.

Proposed Trade Sees Bills Acquire CB Amik Robertson from Detroit Lions

The Bills’ decision to move on from Kaiir Elam may have stemmed from his struggles in the AFC Championship Game against the Kansas City Chiefs. Now, Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report has suggested that Buffalo should target Lions cornerback Amik Robertson to help strengthen their secondary.

Knox highlighted Robertson as a potential fit, noting that the Detroit cornerback carries a $4.2 million base salary and played all 17 regular-season games last season despite suffering a broken arm in the postseason. However, with the Lions adding Rock Ya-Sin and D.J. Reed in free agency and looking to develop 2024 second-round pick Ennis Rakestraw Jr., Robertson could see a reduced role in 2025.

Despite Detroit’s injury-plagued defense last season, Robertson was a consistent contributor, tallying 50 total tackles and forcing three fumbles.

Knox also pointed out that Buffalo, which ranked 24th in passing yards allowed last season, still needs cornerback depth—especially with Rasul Douglas remaining unsigned. However, any trade would need to be cap-friendly, as the Bills currently have less than $1 million in cap space under the top-51 rule.

With Douglas’ future still uncertain, cornerback remains a position of need for Buffalo if he isn’t re-signed this offseason.

Bills Other Moves This Offseason

Buffalo did bring back one corner from last season, agreeing to a one-year deal with Dane Jackson earlier this month.

The Bills have also been busy securing key players with long-term extensions, including wide receiver Khalil Shakir, defensive end Gregory Rousseau, linebacker Terrel Bernard, and reigning MVP quarterback Josh Allen.

To clear some cap space, Buffalo released Von Miller earlier this offseason, which allowed them to sign free agents Joey Bosa, Joshua Palmer, and Larry Ogunjobi.

Despite these moves, the Bills may still be looking for an impact receiver or veteran cornerback to complete their roster.

Additionally, the team holds the No. 30 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft and two second-round picks, thanks to last year’s trade of wide receiver Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans.

Buffalo could target a veteran corner in a trade, but the financial situation may make acquiring a high-salary player more challenging.
