REPORT: Knicks Face Potential Departure of Two Crucial Players
The New York Knicks’ lack of frontcourt depth may become apparent during training camp, as Julius Randle (shoulder) and Mitchell Robinson (ankle) are still recovering from their respective injuries.
SNY’s Ian Begley addressed this issue in his latest mailbag article, responding to fan questions about the Knicks.
“Randle had surgery in early April. Considering typical recovery timelines for shoulder surgery, it would be surprising if Randle is ready for the start of training camp. However, if his recovery goes smoothly, he could return to the court by the Knicks’ season opener on Oct. 22 or shortly thereafter,” Begley explained regarding Randle.
As for Robinson, “He underwent surgery in mid-May to repair a stress injury in his left ankle. As of earlier this week, Robinson hadn’t been cleared for high-intensity weight-bearing activities during rehab, according to sources. He still has several milestones to pass before being fully cleared for training camp,” Begley noted.
New York Knicks are expected to have Jalen Brunson back
Ian Begley shared a positive outlook on Jalen Brunson, expressing confidence that the new team captain will be ready for training camp, as his recovery is progressing faster than expected.
“Brunson underwent surgery in mid-May to repair his broken left hand. At last week’s celebration of his captaincy, there were no visible restrictions on his left hand,” Begley observed.
He continued, “During the event, MSG’s Alan Hahn asked Brunson to give the crowd a thumbs up to show that his hand was in good shape. By all accounts, his rehab has gone well, so I expect he’ll be a full participant in training camp.”
