Buxton would seemingly check many of the boxes the Phillies are looking for. He is a dynamic center fielder, brings legitimate right-handed power and has the type of athleticism that could make a difference during a postseason run. A player like Buxton could provide balance to a lineup that has leaned heavily on left-handed hitters in recent seasons.
However, Minnesota does not appear interested in moving on from its star player.
Twins general manager Jeremy Zoll recently made it clear that trading Buxton is not something the organization is currently considering. Zoll stated that the team has “no plans” to trade the veteran outfielder and does not intend to explore that possibility.
That statement could make it extremely difficult for Philadelphia or any other contender to acquire Buxton before the deadline. Unless Minnesota dramatically changes its direction, the Phillies may have to look elsewhere for help.
Another superstar name connected to Philadelphia has been Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout. For years, fans around baseball have dreamed about seeing Trout play for a competitive organization. With the Angels struggling once again and sitting near the bottom of the American League standings, speculation about a possible trade has only increased.
The Angels’ inability to build a winning team around Trout has been one of the biggest frustrations in baseball. Despite having one of the greatest players of his generation, Los Angeles has reached the postseason only once during Trout’s first 15 seasons with the franchise.

“I know many would love to see Mike Trout traded to the Phillies, but based on my conversation with (interim general manager John) Mozeliak, I get the strong impression that’s not happening, at least during this season,” Bowden wrote.
While Trout is no longer the unstoppable force he was earlier in his career, he has still shown that he can be a dangerous offensive weapon when healthy. The three-time American League MVP is approaching his 35th birthday and is no longer the yearly MVP favorite he once was, but he remains capable of impacting games at the plate.
Through 82 games this season, Trout has produced an impressive .847 OPS, driven in 39 runs and hit 18 home runs. Those numbers show that he can still provide the type of right-handed power the Phillies are searching for.
Philadelphia’s lineup already features several dangerous hitters, but adding Trout would give the team another middle-of-the-order threat. His ability to change the game with one swing would make an already talented offense even more intimidating.
MLB commentator Adam Schein has been one of the loudest voices calling for the Angels to move Trout to a contender. Schein recently urged Los Angeles to send the superstar to Philadelphia and passionately argued that Trout deserves a chance to compete elsewhere.
